The flight is just over 5 hours. He will be sitting on our laps (i.e. not in a car seat). He is at a stage now where he does not like to sit still for more than a few seconds while he is awake. He wants to be crawling, jumping, climbing, or walking while holding our hands. He's got a lot of energy!

I'm thinking that I will bring some toys and books to play with in our seats and that I will let him take walks down the aisle while holding my hands to help him burn off some energy.

Any other suggestions for how we can keep our baby happy during a long flight?
http://moms4mom.com/questions/4191/whats-the-easiest-way-for-me-to-travel-by-myself-with-a-baby What's the easiest way for me to travel by myself with a baby? Kiesa 2010-02-06T01:03:50Z 2010-03-16T14:32:43Z
My husband is visiting India and while he's gone, I'm going to visit my mom in another state. What's the best way to manage luggage, baby stuff, and baby by oneself? By that point, my baby will be just shy of 1 year old. We've traveled by plane a couple times before with him but I've never done it completely by myself. Unfortunately, since my husband will be gone we won't be dropped off at the airport and instead will need to deal with shuttle parking.

My initial thought was to carry him in front with my Beco carrier, get a backpack carrier for his car seat (I bought a seat for him so I won't be checking it), take a carry-on suitcase with wheels, and a large suitcase to check. However, that means that I would be carrying 40+ lbs the entire time. I've done it while backpacking but I doubt this will be as ergonomically comfortable.

I've also considered taking our BOB stroller (the only one we have now) but the thing is huge and I can't imagine trying to manhandle it into the shuttle by myself. I just recently saw the Traveling Toddler car seat accessory and I think that might work for most of the trip but again, I'm not sure about the logistics with the shuttle. One thought that crossed my mind was to get a car seat backpack and the Traveling Toddler and use both on various parts of the trip.

Am I over-thinking this? For those of you that traveled alone with a baby, how did you do it?
http://moms4mom.com/questions/2840/travelling-with-a-newborn-by-plane Travelling with a newborn - by plane Matthew Jones 2009-11-24T15:40:22Z 2009-11-26T03:18:21Z
As an alternative to this question, my wife and I are also looking at flying from Phoenix, AZ, USA to Wichita, KS, USA to visit my extended family (my wife is lucky; her entire extended family lives in Arizona.) I have two questions:

Only one carrier flies direct Phoenix-to-Wichita, and it is more expensive (about 60% more expensive) than going through Denver or Dallas. Is it worth it to pay the money to fly direct?

More generally, what are some tips we can do to keep our baby happy over the approximately two-and-a-half hours flight? Also, is there anything we should know about flying with a newborn that would not otherwise be obvious?

http://moms4mom.com/questions/208/tips-for-air-travel-with-an-infant Tips for air travel with an infant? dave0 2009-09-23T02:06:10Z 2009-11-03T03:55:32Z
We're going to be vacationing with our infant son in about a month. This is our first plane trip with him, so we're not entirely certain what to expect. Are there any tips you can share for the flight itself, for dealing with waiting in airports or passing through security with a baby?
http://moms4mom.com/questions/1147/airline-travel-with-a-3-year-old-should-we-use-a-carseat-in-the-plane-or-not Airline travel with a 3-year old: Should we use a carseat in the plane or not? Chris W. Rea 2009-10-14T00:17:55Z 2009-10-14T03:09:47Z
My wife and I will be traveling soon to the U.S. west coast for a short trip and we're bringing our 3-year old daughter with us. The flight is about five hours and so we're wondering: Should we have our daughter use the carseat while flying in the plane? We need to bring the seat anyway for taxis, etc., but we're not sure if it would be helpful to use while flying or if we should just check it as baggage.

(The last time we took our daughter on an airplane was when she was 4 months old, and we had bulkhead airplane seats with a bassinet. Kids grow so fast! :-)
http://moms4mom.com/questions/256/tips-for-air-travel-with-a-15-month-old Tips for air travel with a 15 month old? Tammy 2009-09-24T22:56:26Z 2009-10-01T04:25:38Z
Similar to this question, we will be travelling by air, but with a 15 month old instead of an infant. The flight is relatively short so we're not as worried about how to entertain her, but we may have to take a cab ride in the destination city.

If the toddler can walk, do you bother with the stroller?

What do you do about the carseat in the taxi? Just bring your own and install it each time you take a cab ride?
