I take a very holistic (natural) approach to my life, but wonder if there are something that just aren't worth the risk.

Although I've been told by doctors that the link between autism or siezures and vaccinations is not proven and quite ridiculous, I do know two families that credit the needles to their child's disorders. On the other hand, I have also heard of a newborn baby in my community passing away because she did not get vaccinated (she died of meningitis).

Does the risk of death by rare disease if not vaccinated outwiegh the risk of autism/seizures if the child does get the needles?

All opinions are welcome (and encouraged)

Toodles! My pediatrician said to encourage her to lay with her head to the right, and to stretch her neck muscles on the left.

Stretching neck muscles is difficult, since she usually fights it, and because there's so little space to get fingers between her head and shoulder, to massage her neck muscles.

Has anyone else had this happen?
What did you do to encourage laying on the other side?
Did the flattening go away on its own?

http://moms4mom.com/questions/5254/how-can-you-stop-baby-hiccups How can you stop baby hiccups? With my first daughter we could not get the latch right and I resorted to pumping during week 1. I was able to produce a decent amount and things went well for the 3-4 weeks I was able to give her breast milk. Due to medical reasons on her part I was unable to conitnue with my milk and we had to change her over to hyper calorie formula to get her to grow (she has heart disease). I have had some people tell me that you can't pump and feed for very long as your milk supply will dwindle. I never found pumping to be a hassle and would gladly do it again for my next baby if I had to. I would really like to get the latch right next time and be able to feed right from the breast but if I can't, does anyone know if you can successfully pump for 6 months to a year? Has anyone used both methods?
http://moms4mom.com/questions/1671/are-second-children-likely-to-walk-talk-and-learn-quicker Are second children likely to walk, talk and learn quicker? Emi 2009-10-25T09:49:00Z 2010-04-17T02:47:17Z
Some friends are about to have their second child and we were talking and reminiscing about our babies development stages recently, recalling how the stages could vary, when they first started crawling, walking and talking. Our daughters are the same age, and their daughter learnt to crawl earlier than ours but walked later.

Now they wonder whether their second will develop quicker than their first. As a mother of one I don't think I am qualified to give an opinion, but I know I have heard that second children can develop skills quicker.

Is it the case that second children can do some things quicker? Is it an ongoing thing? My wife is concerned that the eleven (total; eight onesies and three full-body sleepers) three-to-six-month-old outfits are not enough clothes for him.

Given that we live in a desert, so it does not get bone-chillingly cold (overnight lows in the 40's Fahrenheit, daytime highs in the 60s at the worst), how many outfits, and of what types, should he actually have? KPW 2009-10-18T06:14:23Z 2010-01-15T18:55:50Z
I've heard (and read) that waiting a minute or two for the pulsations to stop decreases chances of anemia in a newborn. My sister had her baby just two days ago but despite requests that they NOT clamp/cut the cord right after birth, they did it anyway.

They then had to "slap" the baby's feet to get her to breath as she turned "purple". Everything turned out fine but it seems to me that leaving that cord flowing just a little longer might have prevented this.

I'd like to know what other parents out there have experienced? What can you say about the pros and cons of delaying clamping or cutting?

Note: I am familiar with the medical studies, etc. I'm not looking for a medical study answer or a doctor's advice. I'm looking for answers from actual parents who have decided one way or another and why.

UPDATE:

Our doctor was absolutely fantastic! When one of the nurses moved in to clamp off the cord our DOCTOR stopped her and said, "They want it to stop pulsing first." I could have EASILY missed it. Like Scott said... your perception changes... there is SO much going on at that very moment.

In any case... the cord stopped pulsating after (I'm guessing) 3-4 min and then the doctor asked if I wanted to cut it. I did. :-)

She's a beautiful little girl, had great color, etc. Based on our personal experience and what I've read... I would highly recommend doing this with your baby. At the end of the day we decided to do this based on the following logic:

"Several medical studies show it is beneficial. The doctor WILL tell you if there is a medical reason why they need to cut it right away. By waiting for 2-3 minutes you are potentially giving your son/daughter a small advantage in life. Why wouldn't you?"

We are very happy that we did.
http://moms4mom.com/questions/2869/do-newborns-have-nightmares Do newborns have nightmares?
