That's a great question. We think about this all the time as well. A couple of years ago. I went to a workshop by Dr. Leonard Sax. He has reviewed a lot of research that links the increased use of Social Media to increased rates of depression and lower feelings of self-worth, particularly in teenage girls. I think it is something to consider. In our household we feel that realistically we won't be able ban social media (and I do believe there are benefits). But, it will come with a lot of education about the internet, internet safety, and the importance of real face-to-face relationships. We will also monitor their use, and make sure they know we are monitoring their use. Of course our oldest is still quite young, who knows how things will change before we would allow her to open an account on any social media site.
