I enjoy listening to audio books and podcasts since it's a great way for me to learn things while still being able to exercise, work on chores, or drive. What parent-related podcasts do you like?

Pediacast is one of my current favorite podcasts. It's created by a pediatrician, "Dr. Mike", who answers parents' questions, reports on current news topics within pediatrics, and research topics. Unfortunately, he has taken a break for the last couple of months. I'm hoping he starts producing more shows. However, even if he doesn't come back there's a fairly large archive of past shows that have all sorts of useful information. I just recently re-listened to a show where he talked about nitrates in infant food since my baby might someday condescend to start eating solid food :) Warning: He's pretty skeptical about many alternative medicine options so if you feel deeply about this area you might find him a bit abrasive. However, I think he spends a lot of time trying to give the best answer he can to questions people ask him. |

Pregtastic was my favorite podcast while I was pregnant. It's a group of pregnant women in San Diego that get together and discuss the ups and downs of pregnancy. They often have various experts on the show to talk about specific topics such as doulas, nutrition, cesareans, etc. |

Podcast Beyond Belief is the podcast of the Science-Based Parenting blog. The hosts are science-based thinkers - skeptics - and the topics include latest news in parenting science, and discussion about different parenting and pregnancy issues. They attempt to approach subjects with a view based on reality rather than parental hunches. The show also has a doctor answering some of the listener's questions. I enjoy the fact-based take the show has on parenting, while still remaining light-hearted and lively. It's isn't as rigorous in it's approach as other the numerous other skeptical podcasts, but the hosts make up for it in subject choice, and approaching the issues with warmth and common reason. Strongly recommended. (The "Beyond Belief" refers to their parent organization, Foundation Beyond Belief, which is a secular, humanistic charity fund, that distributes donated money to secular charities of their choice. The show itself isn't strongly connected with any charities.) |
