I'm sure there are many of you that have hosted a baby shower. Or at least who have had one hosted for you. I thought it would be a good idea to develop a list of baby shower games. Please only post one per answer so people can vote on or make comments about each game.

Everyone writes down a piece of advice to the mom to be. It was fun to read all the great advice later. Even two of my nieces 8 & 7 year olds, wrote some great advice, as they are both older sisters.

Also, there was a piggy bank, and people could put in any amount of money for the baby. Cool idea, now our daughter has a piggy bank to use when she get old enough.
All the above mentioned games were ones that we played at my baby shower. They were all fun.

We did this (advice) at my shower and I loved it. The idea was the person who threw the shower would collect them and pictures from the shower into a little book, but she was too busy to make that happen. But that would make a great shower gift.

Animal Babies

Give a list of animals to each guest. Have them write down what they think the offspring are called. I.e. Goose-gosling, Cow-calf, Cat-kitten, etc.

Have prizes for whoever gets the most right.

We played this at one of my showers. You can find some really tough ones!

Here is a game played at my baby shower to start us off.

Find the parents

  1. Gather baby pictures of friends and/or family members who will be attending the baby shower. (For my shower, the hostess asked each guess to bring a baby picture).
  2. Find a baby picture of each of the parents.
  3. Create pictures boards assigning a number to each photograph. (This can be done with bristol boards, and double sided tape, or thumb tacks. Remember people will probably want their pictures returned at the end.)
  4. Prepare pieces of paper with a list of numbers for each picture and several pens/pencils.
  5. For the game each person is asked to determine which picture belongs to "mom" and which one belongs to "dad". Bonus points are earned for every other guest you can correctly match to their baby picture.
  6. The winner is the person who correctly matches mom and dad with their picture. If more then one person has accomplished this task (or in our case nobody was able to accomplish this task), the winner is the person with the most bonus points.

  • This isn't a game, but another fun thing they did was provide paints to customize plain onesies and baby bottles. They had hung string with clothespins for the onesies, so I got some great pictures of them all hanging. Everyone had fun making their creations, and I think of my friends every time I use those items.

My friends tie-dyed onesies for me. It sounded cool, but it was a bit of a mess for me later. I like the paint idea much better!

Love this idea, so cute!

Make worksheets with the names of mom, dad, and baby spelled out vertically with spaces next to them. Ask the guests to write down words or phrases pertaining to babies or children starting with each letter. Whoever gets the most wins! Or, to make it harder, only award points to unique answers (so, no points if you and Mary both use "toy".)

If you really want to stump your party guests, I suggest the 'Itty Bitty Baby Parts' game. It's essentially a name-that-part in an ultrasound photograph. You can order it online or have fun and make your own using online photos (there are lots of 3D pictures available too).

Name that Baby Food

  1. Collect a few jars of baby food and remove the labels.
  2. Pass the jars around and have people either look as, smell, or taste the food to guess what it might be. Too add difficult you can make some jars, taste only, smell only, or look only.
  3. Who ever makes the most correct guesses wins.

At the baby shower my friends threw for me, we played a couple of games: (EDIT - I split these up into three different posts)

  • Guess the celebrity baby name. The game sheet had 2 columns, one with celebrity names and the other with their child's name, and you had to match them. The crazier the name (e.g. Apple), the better. I actually won this one because I am a wealth of useless knowledge.

From BetsyB

  • Have everyone cut a length of string/ribbon/yarn to guess the belly circumference of the expectant mother. Make sure this is okay with the mom-to-be, because some women might be really sensitive about their size. This was a really funny one; one of my friends cut a length that fit around me AND another pregnant friend. Another woman cut a length that was exactly right.

Also good with toilet paper! Have the guests guess the number of squares it will take to go around mom once or a given number of times. They did it to me 7 times around at On the Border!

(03 Jan '10, 08:00) Artemis

I did this too at a friends party..I was pregnant at the time too but my guess was way out of proportion... :)

(03 Jan '10, 09:37) Emi

Fill a bunch of baby bottles with beer and have a contest to see who could drink it fastest. It's HARD to drink quickly from a bottle!

(If you object to beer for some reason, substitute any drinkable liquid you prefer.)
