I have been in prelabour for 5 days now and am getting exhausted. Does anyone have any advice on how to spur things along? I am 35 weeks pregnant so neither the docs or I want to think of chemical induction yet as its too early. My uterous has been steadily contracting at 2 minute intervals for days, my cervix is soft, has dialated to 2 cms, effaced from 4 cms to 2.5 but it is still high and posterior. I have been stalled like this for days and its getting frustrating. Anyone been through this? How long did it last? What can be done?

I went into preterm labor at 32 weeks so the doctors were pretty aggressive in trying to stop the labor with various combinations of magnesium sulfate, procardia, and terbutaline (it did stop, I was later induced ;) ). However, in addition to the drugs, they also had me spend an hour two times a day in a "therapy pool." It was specifically heated to be warm but not too warm for pregnant women and also was sanitized using ultraviolet light instead of chlorine. It was wonderful. Unlike a bath, there was enough water to be somewhat buoyant which really relaxes the strain on your body. You might check with your doctor and see if this is possibly an option for you.

Good luck!

You may find some helpful advice in this question, though it's specifically about "natural" ways to induce childbirth: http://moms4mom.com/questions/3384/looking-for-natural-ways-to-induce-labor
