For US names, we've gone to the US social security website:

http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

Where they list and rank (according to popularity) all the first names registered in previous years in the US. It helped because we don't want to choose a name that is going to be very common - having 3 Jacobs in classes of 30 students, for instance.

I usually drop them all in a spreadsheet, use a soundex or similar system to group names that are essentially variants of each other (Adam, Adan, Aden), and print a copy out for both of us.

Then over several weeks we each go through the list, cross off ones we don't like, circle ones we like, and leave the neutral ones alone. We combine our lists - eliminating all names that we both crossed off, or one crossed off and one felt neutral about, then rank them so if we both circled one it rises to the top, etc. Make a new list and then go through it again.

At that point I'm usually doing a "kitten war" with names. "Hmm, do I like Richard better than Thomas?" and re-ranking my list that way. My wife follows a different process, and then we get to a point where we've narrowed it down to 20 names or so.

We've also included our other children in the process for our most recent addition to our family. We held veto power for some names, such as "Superman Davis!" but for the most part it was a very rewarding experience for our whole family to have some hand in naming.

There are a lot of baby name websites for India, which might suit your needs better. I can't recommend any one in particular, but here's a page full of them: http://www.google.com/search?q=india%20baby%20names

Sounds democratic and well thought out!

For Belgium, you can find a list of all names given to babies on the website of a governmental organisation that is involved with statictics of the country: http://statbel.fgov.be/nl/statistieken/cijfers/bevolking/andere/namen/voor/index.jsp

Most recent data is from the past year, so can see what the popular names currently are.

Since you don't really specify what you exactly expect from that website, I will have to point you to google...

http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/ looks not too bad on the first glance...

We used a book to decide on the name for our son, backed by statistical data from a local website, because we did not want to use a common name.

The site The Bump looks interesting and rather fun listing possible names for many origins and cultures!

In my opinion Find the perfect name is a handy reminder of things to consider when choosing a name....

Good luck!
