Does it make stretch marks worse if you scratch them?

+1 I've wondered this too. Not sure what the answer is, but I did find that rubbing olive oil on my belly made them less itchy.

I asked my OB about strech marks when I was pregnant with my oldest, she said that it's mostly genetics, (and a bit about how fast you gain your weight) but mostly it's about how "stretchy" your skin is. The breaks in the connective tissue of your skin happens in the lower layers and that creams and lotions won't actually prevent them, since they really only treat the top layer of your skin. It will help with the itching though. So, scratching doesn't make them worse, (and doesn't it feel gooood!), but mosturizing will help with the itch.
