Possible Duplicate:
Is there anyway to relieve swelling during pregnancy?

When I was pregnant with my daughter I feel like my ankles (and subsequently feet and legs) were swollen for half the pregnancy . I assumed that my degree of swelling, particularly in the last trimester was primarily due to my weight gain and eventually high blood pressure.

Although I'm sure both of those things are factors, this time around, my blood pressure is good and both my starting weight and overall weight gain has been under control. However, it seems that the moment my third trimester hit, my ankles started to swell.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to reduce or even eliminate the swelling?

Thanks Emi, you'd think I would of remembered a duplicate question. I will blame the pregnancy brain.

I had issues with swelling as well. I didn't manage to eliminate it but two things that helped to reduce my swelling were:

  • drinking lots of water
  • sitting down regularly with my feet up higher than my hips. I put them on a pillow on a footrest. I was told by a Dr about my feet needed to be higher than my hips. I know it is tricky with a toddler but we would read, do jigsaw etc while I sat on the couch with my feet up and I would always sit down for while when he rested. This helped to prepare him for me having to sit down to feed.

This link has a few other tips.
