Our son now has some teeth. Recently, we noticed that some are changing to a light brown color (looks a bit spotty). We brush the teeth (no paste, just brush and water) and give Fluoride tablets. What could be the cause of this discoloration? He got some antibiotics liquid medicine last week, could that be linked? Is it a sign of some deficiency in his food?

We have an appointment at the doctor's next week for some shots anyway where we'll ask, but I thought I'd ask here for some hints first.

According to our dentist, it seems to have been caused by the liquid oral antibiotics. It should go away by brushing in a few days.

I have read from a few sources that excessive fluoride causes teeth to turn brown. Perhaps the fluoride tablets are too much for your baby?

Interestingly our dental hygenist mentioned that we should make sure our baby has extra fluoride because we don't live in an area where fluoride is added to the water. When I mentioned this to our family doctor he said there is no reason to give our daughter fluoride and mentioned that it could cause teeth discoloration.

I know that I received fluoride treatment at school and at the dentist when I was older (probably grades 2 to 6) so I don't know when is an appropriate age to start this type of treatment if any.

The Fluoride was given by the pediatrician (we asked for it and when to start) - we will ask if it is too much...
