Anyone have any good tips or resources for measuring your kids feet and therefor fitting them with the proper sized shoes? The only thing I know is to look at her feet for red marks from time to time as an indicator or them getting too tight but I think there has got to be a better way.

I know I can take her to a fancier shoe store and they will do it for me but I mean for use at home so that I can go out to a cheaper store and buy shoes.

Good question. I wonder this all the time. I've been putting off buying her first "real" shoes and this is one of the reasons.

A very basic method that I used ( and still do) was to draw around her barefeet on a piece of paper and then cut it out. If I need to choose shoes for her and she is not with me, or if I am not sure of the size then I basically use this template / drawing as a guideline.

If you turn the shoe upside down and place the drawing on the sole, you will immediately see whether the shape of the shoe is suitable for not. My LO had wide feet so this was a great way for choosing suitable styles.

This link can come in handy for downloading a PDF Paper Gauge too! Startrite Paper Gauge

For fitting a shoe properly I have always followed the guidelines of Start Rite! How to measure fit childrens shoes

We used your method when buying our daughter her first rubber soled shoes. It worked great, I'm recommending it to everyone. Thanks.

For our son we go to a "fancy store" we trust, and get him shoes that fit him. These are more expensive then when you buy them somewhere cheap, but the professional can choose the right shoes way better then an minimum wage seller can.

He only needs 2 pairs of shoes for outside, inhouse he wears "krabbelschuhe" which are basicly a bit of leather cloth... So the price is not that important. YMMV
