I have heard about:

  • Fish because of the Mercury
  • Diet soda because of the artificial sweeteners
  • Deli meat because of bacteria

Are any of these myths? Are there any other well known foods to avoid?

My doctor told me to avoid the lunch meat as well. It was not that hard because I do not like lunch meat that much anyway. I totally quit drinking soda while I was pregnant. It was really hard, but it became easier each day. There are some fish that are low in the mercury level and are safe to eat...I think cod is one of them.

  • Anything with alcohol
  • raw fish, raw meat, raw eggs, because of bacteria or parasites (salmonella)
  • cheese made from raw milk, also because of bacteria or parasites (listeria)

Unfortunately I don't remember. My possible sources include internet, books, TV documentaries and advices from friends.
